What is the Wharfedale Packhorse?
The Wharfedale Packhorse is a community bus service which runs on Saturday evenings and connects with the Pride of the Dales 1830 service 74 from Ilkley arriving at Grassington at 1914 and the 1845 service 72 from Skipton arriving at 1918. This service is demand responsive and to guarantee seats, tickets must be pre-booked. Tickets booked via the driver during the evening are subject to availability.
Who operates the Wharfedale Packhorse?
This service is operated from the Grassington Community Hub by Grassington Community Transport with the support of DalesBus, Dales & Bowland Community Interest Company with funding from Upper Wharfedale Community Interest Company.
Fares: how much does it cost to travel on the Wharfedale Packhorse?
A Wharfedale Packhorse Day Rover ticket costs £10.00 and entitles you to "hop on and hop off" the bus as many times as you like at any of the stops detailed on the timetable, subject to seat availability. You must specify the time and location of the last leg of your journey at the time of booking. For example, Hubberholme to Ilkley at 22:20.
This includes travel to Ilkley or Skipton on the last bus and from Ilkley or Skipton back to the village stop of your choice on the route if required. You must pre-book your ticket via Grassington Hub and you must specify the last leg of your journey at the time of booking to guarantee your seat.
A Wharfedale Day Rover ticket also entitles you to unlimited journeys on Pride of the Dales buses to and from Ilkley and Skipton and Buckden/Hebden on the day of travel. You can not buy a Wharfedale Day Rover on a Pride of the Dales bus; it must be pre-booked, (Monday to Friday by 4.30pm)
Single fares between villages on the route in Upper Wharfedale on the Wharfedale Packhorse cost £2.50 for the first two village stops then £1.00 per stop up to a maximum £5.00 fare. Saver Cards now available - click here.
Tickets booked via the driver during the evening or bought on the bus are subject to seats being available and ticket holders have priority.
To guarantee seats, all tickets must be pre-booked via Grassington Hub and you must specify the last leg of your journey at the time of booking.
Can I use my bus pass on the Wharfedale Packhorse?
No. Concessionary passes and reduced fares are not valid for children, OAPs nor people with disabilities. This service operates on a one fare for all basis.
How do I book my Wharfedale Packhorse tickets?
To book your tickets, visit the Grassington Hub office, telephone 01756 752 222 on weekdays Monday to Friday between 10.00am up to 4.30pm or email: email@example.com
If you visit the hub in person you will be given your ticket at the time of booking following payment by cash, cheque or debit card. If you make a telephone booking, your payment will be taken by card over the phone and your ticket will be emailed to you. You must then print out and present this ticket to the driver on the Wharfedale Packhorse.
If you have bought a Wharfedale Day Rover and intend to also use the Pride of the Dales services you should present your ticket to a driver on one of their buses.
Can I book seats on Wharfedale Packhorse during the day of travel?
Yes, you can call the driver on 07802 707 751 who will take your booking when it is safe to do so but please be aware the seats are subject to availability and ticket holders have priority and guaranteed seats. Tickets booked using this method are not valid on Pride of the Dales services.
Can I get on the Wharfedale Packhorse if I don't have a pre-booked ticket?
Yes but please be aware the seats are subject to availability and ticket holders have priority.
Can I take my dog on the Wharfedale Packhorse?
Yes, well behaved and clean dogs can travel free with you on this service.
Can I buy group or bulk tickets at a discount?
